Mission Statement

Support, fund, present or participate in programs to schools, businesses or civic groups promoting financial literacy emphasizing an understanding of the consumer credit system and the wise use of consumer credit.

Purpose

The primary mission of the Foundation is to support, fund, present and/or participate in programs for schools, businesses and civic groups to promote financial literacy emphasizing an understanding of the consumer credit system and the wise use of consumer credit. This will include promoting education on how to budget and manage money, types of credit and the granting of credit, credit reporting, safeguarding credit, credit fraud, consumer credit counseling, collections, consumer rights and responsibilities, the true cost ofusing check cashing and "rent to own" services, the disadvantages of bankruptcy, deceptive practices of credit clinics and predatory lenders, and other relative subjects.

The Foundation will support the educational efforts of other organizations in this area by providing grants and other funding and supplying educational materials. Potential grant recipients will include community credit counseling services, which provide counseling to individuals and families experiencing financial difficulties, university extension programs, county extension programs, and national non-profit organizations such as the Credit Research Center, Merchants Research Council, National Foundation for Consumer Credit, and the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy.

The Foundation may supply speakers, furnish educational materials and sponsor seminars held for low-income individuals, first time home buyers, middle and high school students, accountants, attorneys and other professional advisors, credit union customers, and the public in general at neighborhood centers and community group meetings. In addition, the Foundation will provide training to high school teachers, members of the clergy and others to enable them to teach credit education, money management and budgeting classes. The Foundation may also sponsor public service announcements on the wise use of consumer credit and related topics.

The Foundation would typically provide speakers, training and educational materials free of charge, but may charge nominal sums in appropriate circumstances.
